“Amoeba has taken most of the IT off our plate, so to speak, so we can concentrate on installing more solar and battery storage systems.”
I'm the founder of Puget Sound Solar, and today I serve as our Government Affairs Specialist while still being an active partner in the LLC. We're an electrical and general contractor that installs solar energy systems, electric vehicle charging stations, and the associated electrical work. We started small — a guy and a truck — and 25 years later we have 50 employees and have recently become a union contractor, with our electricians joining IBEW Local 46.
There wasn't much of a cloud 25 years ago, so over the years we've experienced a gradual shift away from in-house resources toward hired services. I believe we've been with Amoeba since we switched to Gmail. What drew us to them was that they offered a package of things we would have otherwise had to source separately — and overall, we were confident that Amoeba could scale their service as our company grew.
That confidence has borne out. The service has been seamless, with few glitches, and Amoeba has been a step ahead on things like cybersecurity. One example I know of is tools that examine the source of emails to catch phishing attempts — the kind of thing that matters a lot given how much email we exchange with policymakers, utilities, and others in our industry.
The Amoeba team is very responsive whenever we have a question or an issue, which isn't very often, and problems get solved if they arise. Throughout our company's existence there have been many changes in the construction and electrical trades and in renewable energy technologies that we've had to keep pace with. There have also been many changes in information technology, and Amoeba has taken most of that off our plate, so to speak, so we can concentrate on installing more solar and battery storage systems.
